Snail Facial

If you are faint of heart, “TURN AWAY” I say! This beauty trend may make you feel like a 'slow poke' with regards to being in the 'KNOW' of what trends are out there in the world. Believe me, I am ok with that.

Thailand...known for its Tuk-Tuks, Harem Pants, street food and blissful living is now known for the SNAIL FACIAL...insert “GAGGING” noise here. Yes, you heard right. Real live snails crawling around on your face!! This is not something I can personally see myself doing but let's explore WHY in the heck this ever became a reality and not folklore. Haha!

The Secret Sauce

Snail ‘slime’ is similar in makeup to hyaluronic acid which is supposed to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. Supposedly, it's a truly natural remedy for wrinkles, if you would like to look at this way, and removes dead skin cells. For some, this may be a much better alternative than sticking needles in your face for skin enlightenment...who knows! One's beauty regime may not be for everyone, especially this one! However, there are even snail farms out there and in some facilities, snails are known as ‘celebrities’ and are being fed an all organic diet in temperature controlled rooms. Snail 'ballers' apparently.

This may be comparable to the 'FISH Pedicure' of Japan where you put your feet in a tank and little 'doctor fish' eats the dead skin off your feet. For me personally, these unusual treatments are too over the top, but for the adventurers out there, many are drawn to body benefits derived from truly natural means.

Who are we to judge, plus it's all so fascinating and it takes the idea of organic living to a whole new level. Check out this article for more crazy beauty treatments!
