Okay, let's talk brow laminations, because I feel like this service can be SO good when you really understand the brows you're working with.
But here's the thing I've learned: not every client is going to be a good candidate for a brow lamination, and that's okay!
A big part of being good at this service is knowing when to say yes, when to adjust your technique, and when to say, "I actually think we should wait on this."
And honestly, that's where the consultation comes in.
I love a brow lamination on someone who has hair that needs a little direction.
Think:
And here's something I think is important: your client doesn't have to have super thick brows to be a candidate. Sometimes those finer, lighter hairs are there, they're just laying completely flat and getting lost. Lamination can help reposition those hairs and make the brows look fuller.
Ask them what they're actually trying to achieve.
I like questions like:
Because when someone says, "I want laminated brows," that can mean something completely different to every person. One client might want their brows standing straight up. Another might want them fluffy but still natural. Another might just want their hairs to stay in place instead of falling down five minutes after they brush them.
You need to know what they mean by laminated brows.
Keep your consultation tight with a Brow Lamination Consent Form and the matching client history forms so you're protecting the client and yourself before any product hits the brow.
Please don't feel like every brow has to look like it's reaching for the ceiling.
I see this a lot, especially when you're first learning. You want that fluffy look, so you brush everything straight up and call it a day.
But look at the natural growth pattern of the brow. I usually like to think about creating a nice flow:
Obviously, every brow is different, but I want the finished brow to look intentional, not like every individual hair is doing its own thing.
This is a big one.
Please don't think: "Well, this is the timing I always use, so I'll just do that on everyone."
Brows are not one-size-fits-all. Fine, delicate brow hairs can process much faster than thick, coarse hairs. And once you've overprocessed brow hair, there's not really a magical undo button. Follow the timing and instructions for the specific product you're using, and pay attention to the hair you're working on. If you're questioning whether the hair is ready, protecting the integrity of the brow should always be the priority. I'd rather have a client come back and say, "I wish they were a little stronger," than have them come back with dry, crunchy, overprocessed brows.
For a complete pro system with glue, lift, lock, and tools, I reach for the GladGirl Eyebrow Lamination Kit. You can also shop the full brow lamination kits and lotions or the broader LashLift and Brow Lamination collection. These are professional products for trained, licensed beauty pros, not for self-use at home.
This one is frustrating. You brush the brows up. They're looking gorgeous. You turn your head for two seconds… and they're already trying to go back to their old ways. Usually, this is where I take a step back and look at what's happening.
Sometimes you don't need to fight the brow. You just need to work with it. A good lamination should enhance the brow, not make it look like you've completely rearranged its DNA.
A little finishing help goes a long way too. Lash & Brow Setting Gel can support that brushed-up look between appointments, and if a client needs more definition, a professional brow tint from the GladGirl professional liquid brow tint lineup can be a gorgeous add-on when they're a good candidate (always patch test and follow your training and local regulations).
Welcome to doing brows.
Because of course one brow is going to behave beautifully and the other one is going to wake up and choose violence. I always say they're sisters, not twins. Seriously though, don't assume both brows are going to behave exactly the same.
You can have:
Pay attention to what you're actually seeing instead of treating both brows like they're identical twins.
I know when you're busy, it's tempting to just get started. But those few minutes talking to your client can save you so many headaches.
And if you don't think lamination is the right service for them, tell them. Maybe they actually need a tint. Maybe they need a good brow wax and cleanup. Maybe they need to grow their brows out for a few weeks.
That client is much more likely to come back because they know you're going to recommend what is actually best for them, not just whatever service is on the menu. A Brow Lamination Counter Card at the station helps explain the service and set expectations before they ever book.
Don't get so focused on creating the perfect laminated brow that you forget you're working with an actual person's face and their natural hair. Every brow is different. Every client wants something a little different. And honestly, that's what makes this service fun. Learn how the hair behaves. Learn how to adjust. Learn when to push and, more importantly, when not to push.
When you get that perfect combination of healthy hair, beautiful direction, and a client who walks out saying, "I don't even need to fill them in anymore!" … that's the win. Beauty begins with you, and it starts with reading the brow in front of you.
