Tweezers are one of the most important tools in our arsenal, which is why taking proper care of them is a top priority. Never let anyone besides yourself use your valuable tweezers – improper care and dropped tweezers can shorten the lifespan of one of your most valuable tools. Cleaning and sanitation are so important – we need to keep ourselves and our clients safe from disease and unnecessary bacteria when using different tools. In this article, we will be going over how to properly care for your tweezers so that they don't become a health hazard to yourself and your clients. *Before taking any of the steps listed below, check with your state's laws on sanitation and sterilization for proper cleaning of your equipment.
1. Only Tweeze With Your Tweezers
Before you break out your tweezers, remember to only use them for the purpose you bought them for. If you are lashing, don’t use them to remove lashes from the tray or to poke open the tip of your glue. Now, let’s go over how to clean them properly.
2. Inspect Tweezers for Any Debris on the Tips
Remove any glue residue with acetone or glue remover. A cotton-round soaked in acetone is my choice. Run the cotton round over the tips and remove any glue.
3. Wash and Disinfect Your Tweezers
Wash your tweezers with an antibacterial soap, rinse them, and then pat them dry. You can then place your tweezers in a wet solution, and then in an ultraviolet light sanitizer. Tweezers must be completely submerged for a minimum of 10 minutes in wet sanitizer (Barbircide). Make sure you don’t leave them for hours in this solution. This can cause pitting in the metal. Take care to thoroughly rinse your tweezers and remove any solution. Ultra violet in a sani sterilizer for a minimum of 10 minutes. 4. Protect Your Tweezers in a Case
Remove your tweezers from your preferred method of sanitation and place the plastic tip cover back on your tweezers if they are going to be in a drawer. You always want to protect the tips of your tweezers so they stay sharp and clean. There are tons of nice case available to store your tweezers. In some areas, leather pouches are not legal to keep your tweezers in due to the inability to sanitize them. Alternatively, plastic is a good choice for storage and can be cleaned easily. So remember to keep your tools in tip-top shape, sanitize them properly, and store them away carefully. It is important to keep your clients safe and happy.
